Poetry Book Giveaway (Book of Kells)
Monday, March 28, 2011 at 3:19PM
Kelli Russell Agodon (the author of Letters from the Emily Dickenson Room, among other books) has decided to again organize a poetry giveaway for National Poetry Month.
Her reasons for doing so?
- Because I want to introduce people to poets they may not have heard of.
- Because I want more people to read poetry.
- Because I love the idea of poetry books being mailed off to new readers.
- Because I like learning about new blogs and bloggers.
- Because it's National Poetry Month and I want to bring more attention to poets and poetry.
I am going to participate by giving away a copy of my recently published new and selected poems Mercy Island and a copy of Lorine Niedecker's Collected Works
I have chosen my own... well, because I am proud of it and because I can.
I have chosen Lorine Niedecker because she is an inspiration... for so many reasons: Niedecker was a woman who worked hard for little. She was an Imagist and Surrealist, turned Objectivist. She showed the patience to mature as a writer when she let her writing simmer for 15 years between books... and she dared to write poems that other people disliked for hitting too close to home.
She was not widely published and was no recognized by the literary community until she was over sixty. Niedecker also wrote radio dramas:
I was the September dandelion – forty, female – seeking a place among the young fluorescent petunias. I kept cropping up in the world’s backyards while here in America....

You can sign up here to win one of these books, and/or you can go to the Book of Kells (left sidebar under Kelli's bio) to see who else is participating and giving poetry books away! Enter as many giveaway drawing as you like by stating your interest in the comments of each writer/blogger's Giveaway posting.
On May 1st, we will put names in a hat (or use another random method) to pick the winners.
Good luck (and good reading) to all of us!

I would give mine away of course--or at least yours since I have it 'n wanna keep it?! (to cherish awhile longer, been a long time away from poetry--don't know why, just has...) Takk?! ;o)

Hi Ren, I'm a Niedecker fan as well...sign me up!
Hi! I first saw your work on Poets on Prozac and after reading "My name is not Alice" I looked for you online and came across your blog. Your writing is incredible. I love the transparency as well as the symbolism of it. I am writing a paper on your work and was wondering if there is any chance I could get maybe ask you a couple of questions through email? If not, I understand and would like to congratulate you in your work. It is stupendous.
This sounds wonderful. Count me in, please!

Sounds wonderful, and it is so lovely to connect and discover new poets and their writing in this way. Happy Spring x
